IN Touch
David Thorogood - Painter
7 – 25 July
IN Touch is an exhibition of paintings inspired by the human body, exploring themes of movement and flight, mythology and mortality. Many of the works are experimental, incorporating unconventional materials such as bitumen, plaster, hessian, wrapping paper and clothing to create richly textured and expressive surfaces.
David Thorogood grew up in the UK surrounded by his uncle’s deeply textural paintings, which continue to influence his artistic practice today. He completed a degree in Fine Art Sculpture before training and working as an Arts Psychotherapist.
After emigrating to Australia, David completed a Diploma of Visual Arts at TAFE, where his passion for image-making was reignited. Within three months, he was awarded the TAFE Painting Prize, the Sunshine Coast Show Painting Prize, and Gympie’s national Du Reitz Art Prize.
