From exhibitions, workshops, residencies and events John pitches-in to keep the Ambo galleries active and interesting.
He is also working to build the profile and ability of the Ambo as a makerspace that embraces ‘making’ across the the various artforms and through digital technologies.
Drawing on 25+ years experience as an artist, curator and project manager John supports the Ambo’s grass-roots, open and accessible model. His work at the Ambo, and elsewhere, aims to see people and communities thrive through creative events, enterprises and practices.
In September 2013 John was nominated a Cultural Champion and added to the Cultural Champions Wall of Fame for his contribution to the Queensland arts and culture sector and particularly for his work serving on arts and heritage boards and coordinating Indigenous cultural revival projects and the Australian South Sea Islander 150 year commemoration.
